The thoughtful evolution establishes the resort as a new expression of five-star North East hospitality. Having been appointed as Rockliffe’s strategic brand partner at the start of 2025, we’ve worked alongside the team to define what this next chapter should stand for, and how it should feel at every touchpoint.

Set within an ancient curve of the River Tees, Rockliffe’s 375-acre estate has been carefully reimagined, including the restoration of its Grade II listed hall, new suites and an ambitious collection of dining and bar concepts.

At the heart of the transformation is ATLAS James & Maria Close, a new 36-cover, fine-dining restaurant. It sits alongside five further offerings spanning Italian-American at Rialto, Japanese-influenced cocktails at Ro, as well as The Morning Room, Café Terra and The Clubhouse.

Informed by audience and category research, our role has been to build the brand around Rockliffe’s distinct vision of world-class hospitality: warmer, more human and unmistakably grounded in its region. But our work went far beyond strategy and design, extending across the complete guest journey — from discovery and arrival to dining, check-out and departure — to make sure each experience is defined and shaped by curation, discovery and moments of wonder.

The result brings together considered craftsmanship, empathetic service and North East pride, expressed through everything from the signature scent and distinctive uniforms to the individual character of each culinary destination.

Paul Bell, Client Services Director at Better, said: “We set out to create a brand that could match Rockliffe’s ambition without losing the warmth and character that make it distinctive. From the beginning, we gave every part of the experience a shared focus and direction, creating something refined and world-class, but still carrying an unmistakable North East spirit.”

Grant Mckenzie, Group Chief Commercial Officer at Rockliffe, added: “This launch marks a major step for Rockliffe. We’ve created a brand that reflects both the quality of the experience and the ambition we have for the future.

“Better has helped us capture what makes Rockliffe distinctive and express it at every guest moment with greater clarity, confidence and relevance.”

The launch reflects a shared ambition to turn brand strategy into real-life moments guests can see, feel and remember. This is the beginning of Rockliffe’s next chapter, and a new standard for world-class, North East hospitality.
