Be Better Informed – October 2009

Our monthly shout out about what’s buzzing in the Better studio.

The TyneTeesTwestival

The TyneTeesTwestival is all about people. We’ve got to say a big big thank you to some high energy people who stepped up to the bar to help deliver the event. Aoife, Li, The Sharpe ladies, Laura M, Oli, The Frii Spray guys, Amanda and Chris for the pictures and the Sailor Girls. Our sponsors were generous, our host was accommodating and people had a good time; drank, ate and gave their money for charity. Every team needs a leader and Aoife, who despite illness, unescapable trips away and a full time job managed to pull us all together and make us work as a team. Around £1,400 was raised which will go to support Teesside Hospice and NECCR (North East Child Cancer Research), the events chosen charities. Again there’s pics a plenty below, so go take a look….in a bit!

We’ve also been heavily involved in supporting the upcoming ‘Touch of Class’ Ball which will be held at the MFC Riverside Stadium this evening. Now in its 4th year, the event goes from strength to strength, with previous events having raised nearly £60,000. With only 200 tickets available and some high profile names already on the guest list, it’s an exclusive event not to be missed!

Our first trip abroad to pitch!

Paul and I put on our linen suits and took the Better message abroad this month with pitches in Malta to some of the key tourism and travel companies in the country. There wasn’t anytime for sight seeing, with pitches organised over the two days, though we did manage to take some shots for our Flickr channel which you can see below. Hang on though, don’t jump to the pics there’s other good stuff here worth checking out first!

We’d also like to say a warm welcome to some nice new clients.

Please look out for them, they’re great businesses and organisations led by good people.

Entrepreneurs ForumThere is a great deal written about the good work carried out by the Entrepreneurs Forum. We particularly like this. “The idea was simple – to create a cross sector peer–group of like minded individuals who could share ideas, knowledge, inspiration and opportunities in a confidential environment.” Better are looking forward to working with the Forum on the Youth Conference which will be held early next year, more details to be announced soon.

NWA ResearchNWA Research are delivering a project for North Tees PCT, looking at children’s current behaviour in relation to sexual relationships, drug and alcohol usage, and the extent to which they think their peers partake in these behaviours. Better has been appointed to provide creative input to the second marketing phase of the project which will take the key findings of the research and develop key messages which can be displayed in schools within the Stockton area.

Henderson CampbellHenderson Campbell is a North East-based, privately owned, progressive, civil engineering and building company. The team are keen to look at alternatives to traditional paper based communications and have appointed Better to provide e-mail marketing communication support going forward.

And here’s some we made earlier…

This month also saw the delivery and launch of some of our recent work including brand spanking new websites for Philippa Gregory, Northern Defence Industries, and Chapters Hotel as well as the launch of new brands for SASDA and Teesside University Students Union. We are also proud to be supporting MPI Offshore with their overall brand and marketing strategy, this includes the launch of their new website, as the team prepared for BWEA31: The UK’s premier renewable energy event.

From the Blog
We’d rather contribute to the conversation than sit on the fence.
That means poking your head up above the parapet to get shot at. We have opinions and ideas we’d like to share so here’s one of our most recent blog posts.

Charities are making social media work hard for them.

In tough economic times people and businesses are less able to give as freely as they may have once given, charity unfortunately stays at home! As with any business in a recession charities need to be where their audience is or they run the risk of being left behind, and it’s clear some smaller charities are struggling to change lanes and adopt social media as a key part of their strategy. Out and about.
Where we’ve been and where we’re going.

We love talking and we’ve proved this over the last few weeks as Dec and I have been busy buzzing around the region delivering seminars and talks. I braved the creative students of Newcastle College to support the ‘Make It Happen’ Enterprise Day with a number of other ‘role models’ (yeah we chuckled too) to inspire some creative youngsters before shooting off to be part of the ‘Digital Debates’ at Newcastle University Business School to deliver a presentation about Social Media. Dec has also been busy delivering a Social Media Masterclass on behalf of the Tees Valley and Durham CIM which went down a storm and generated some great discussions in the room.

We’re also looking forward to a few great events coming up including Business Link ‘Start Your Business’ Enterprise Shows where I will be supporting the Entrepreneurs Forum IWCYC Stand, and of course the Marketing the Art of event in November. This will be a popular event so make sure you get yourself registered early! In addition to this the first If We Can, You Can Unplugged event is coming to the Tees Valley on 21st October at the Sporting Lodge – more information on this event and getting involved with the IWCYC Campaign is available at www.ifwecanyoucan.co.uk.
