The Brief
Despite having defined a clear manifesto, a powerful WHY and archetype blend; One Ocean’s logo and typography were failing to properly express the innovation, refinement and duality of this emerging blue beauty brand.
One Ocean Beauty creates marine-based beauty products that transform the beauty status quo. Passionate about exploring the ocean to gain a deeper understanding of its healing potential, they create cutting-edge beauty formulations that are good for you, your skin, and the ocean.
The Solution
Building on three archetypal values defined by One Ocean — adventurous, visionary and scientific — we generated thirteen triangulated typographic directions. These options helped One Ocean Beauty to select a clear visual tonality. This tone was refined into a final wordmark and refreshed typographic and design direction.

Rolling in the deep
The new logo expresses the duality of One Ocean Beauty, two typefaces each representing a unique facet of the brand. Headlines are elegantly rendered in an organic flowing serif, whose letterforms naturally roll into one another in waves. Meanwhile, descriptors are typed in a monospaced font inspired by lab sample labelling. Setting the descriptor in this unorthodox style represents the brand's efforts to evolve and reclassify beauty scientifically, learning from nature without harming it.

Ocean colour scene
We expanded the colour palette, drawing directly from the ocean’s white foam, its cerulean blues and deeper, darker hues from its depths. Finally, to the surface, the stones and sands of the shore, green algae and a refreshing aqua mist.

The tide is high
Ocean imagery forms a crucial part of the One Ocean Beauty brand. To help differentiate products, their active ingredients and their uses, we introduced a logic to types of oceanic photography that could be used on pack.
