Mark speaks at The Big Social Media Show

We’ve been up to quite a lot this month, including Mark being asked to speak at The Big Social Media Show this week, which was organised by Superfast North Yorkshire.

Of course, Mark was delighted to take up the challenge of speaking at the event, which was held this Wednesday at the beautiful York Racecourse.

The event provided free social media training for businesses across Yorkshire and was held across the whole day, hosting multiple digital gurus such as Haroon Rashid, Pascal Fintoni, Nicola Little and Andy Gambles. The idea behind this event was to boost social media skill level of SMEs across the region and offered sessions on using YouTube and Google+ for your business, advertising on Twitter and Facebook, understanding how to update social media tools though software, blogging, and social sharing.

Local businesses were invited to learn new tactics, tools and tips and were able to quiz the experts while enjoying refreshments in their very own social media cafe which ran throughout the day. There was also ample chance to network with peers and experts in between key sessions, which was very valuable to all involved.

Places were limited to those companies who trade predominantly b2b in the area and was run by Superfast North Yorkshire, which is the fibre broadband roll-out programme which is being jointly funded by North Yorkshire County Council, The Department for Culture, BT, Media and Sport, and the European Development Fund.

Mark hosted two sessions, ‘Your Social Media Toolkit – Understanding How to Update Social Media Through Software’, in which he spoke about the tools that are available to manage and monitor your social media platforms such as HootSuite, Sprout Social and TweetDeck. The other session was based on ‘Building a Culture for Social Media’, where he touched upon the culture, behaviours, resourcing, planning and strategy behind effectively running a social media campaign.

“The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with local business and share experiences directly with companies looking to start or develop their digital journey. Digital marketing can be overwhelming with the pace of change and number of tools available so breaking down how to approach the platforms, resourcing, strategy and prioritising is critical to helping small businesses maximise the value”.

Mark even got featured in the local press!

Superfast North Yorkshire are also hosting another two digital marketing events, their ‘Google Juice Bar’ at Ripon Racecourse, which aims to help local businesses discover how to use the web to squeeze every last drop out of their business opportunities; and also a series of LinkedIn roadshows across December, January and February.

The string of events going to Harrogate, Richmond, Scarborough, Skipton and York, aim to provide invaluable days away from the office and away from technology to sit down and work on your LinkedIn strategy.

They will also provide advice on how the platform can be used to maximise your efforts and produce the best results over interactive sessions and practical workshops.

The content from Mark’s sessions will be on our blog very soon, so keep your eyes peeled.
